There is currently a commercial airing trying to entice people to visit Florida. In the commercial, many beautiful people lay on the beach in the sun, looking relaxed and tan. A small cloud passes over the sun and everyone gasps; two seconds later the cloud passes and the sun shines on everyone again. One woman says to another, "The weather yesterday was so much better," and then the deep voiced announcer says something along the lines of, "A bad day in Florida is better than a good day everywhere else."

I HATE that commercial.

First of all, that little cloud is nothing. In Florida, it rains every. single. freaking. day. It doesn't rain for very long, only fifteen minutes or so. But after it rains the sun comes out and heats up all that water until it feels like you're walking around in a sauna at all times. I can't ever recall having been in Florida when I haven't been the victim of oppressive, unbearable heat. I find it laughable that this commercial pretends that the weather is just so fabulous.

Really, is it anyone's idea of a great vacation to walk around in a perpetual state of sweatiness? To lay on the beach in the hot sun, only to have to run for cover mid-day when the daily showers hit? To be in such humidity that your hair is always frizzy?

I know plenty of people love Florida. And I'm sure there are plenty of great things about it. But in my opinion the weather is the worst thing about Florida. If you want to promote tourism, talk about Disney World and Universal Studios and Busch Gardens and Cape Canavral. Sure, show the beach because Florida does have beaches, but don't harp on how the weather is perfect. Don't do it!

Don't lie to me!!
